Our Rotating Cutting Tools program:
Guhring’s reamer range includes HSS-E and carbide NC reamers that are especially suitable for the application in shrink fit or hydraulic chucks thanks to an h6 shank. This combination offers the highest concentricity and process reliability for the production of fits. In addition, Guhring has, for the first time, included HSS-E reamers with internal cooling in the standard range. For the user this does not only mean a longer tool life and an optimised swarf evacuation from the hole. Thanks to the inclusion of tools with internal cooling in the standard range, the user benefits above all from considerable cost advantages in comparison to the special solutions previously necessary. Guhring’s reamer and countersink program also includes carbide tools with A-coating (TiAlN), permitting higher cutting speeds and feed rates in certain applications compared to bright and TiN-coated tools. The machining of certain diificult materials - such as non-ferrous-, light and heavy metals, fibre reinforced plastics, ceramics, synthetic glass etc. has, until quite recently, been the province of tungsten carbide tooling but is now being increasingly influenced by a new generation of diamond tools. The limit of advantages offered by tools in superhard cutting materials in their machining performance is far from being reached, especially in the automobile, aircraft and space industry. |
|
| These industries are continuously developing new, wear-resistant materials (e.g. ALSiC for brake discs), which are very difficult-to-machine or sometimes not machinable using conventional tools. Diamond tools also achieve excellent results in terms of accuracy. | ![]() |

| Taps | ||
Guhring’s current tap program includes tools for most application tasks in a variety of materials, for different thread types as well as depths up 3 x D and naturally for the production of threads in blind as well as through holes. The special geometries and the application orientated tap coatings as well as tools with or without flutes or with or without internal cooling respectively provide a tool selection that is equal to almost any application task. The Guhring tap program also covers special applications. For example, a solid carbide TiCN-coated tap allows the production of threads in hardened steels. For the production of threads in magnesium and magnesium-alloys a TiAlN and MolyGlide coated HSS-E tap, for example, achieves excellent results. In addition, there are tools available for HPC (High Performance Cutting) and minimal lubrication applications. Click here to request a catalogue.

Fluteless Taps
|
||
| "Profile" - Guhring's new fluteless tap generation | ||
Conventional fluteless taps, produced by a grinding process only, show traces of microscopic, very fine grinding marks on the surface of the tool. This also applies to the threaded protion of the tool required to perform the thread forming operation. This surface topography has a negative effect on the friction between the tool and the material to be re-formed as well as on the herewith associated heat development, on the necessary torque and last but not least on the wear of the pressure points of the fluteless tap. In addition, the "grinding marks" encourage the buildup of the material to be re-formed in the thread flanks of the fluteless tap. This is also called cold welding. For the user, a longer tool life and increased cutting speeds are the benfits of this special process. The tool life can be increased considerably depending on the material to be machined and the application conditions. A 100% increase in tool life is not unusual.

Thread Milling Cutter
|
||
| Thread production | ||
| With conventional thread cutting the thread is produced from the image of the tool profile, conditional on the chamfer lead for the workpiece. In contrast, with thread milling the thread is produced via a series of cutting paths by the milling cutter, whereby the pitch is realised by the machine. The thread mill makes numerous pases through the axis section of a thread during a spiral motion in axial tool-workpiece direction and thereby interpolates the contour of the thread. | ||
| TMC thread milling cutter | ||
| This thread milling cutter can produce different threads with countersinking chamfer and identical pitch. | ||
| TMU universal thread milling cutter | ||
| Due to the recess behind the cutting section this tool can produce, via a second milling cycle, a thread deeper than the overall length of the cutting section. | ||

| EB 800 - gun drill with interchangeable insert | ![]() |
- The precision interchangeable inserts and supporting strips eliminate complicated adjustments
|
|
| EB 100 | |
Since the introduction of the EB 100 ex-stock range in 2000, Guhring has successfully broken the rule that gun drills are special tools. This success gave us the incentive to expand the range considerably and be able to provide our costumers with a greater choice of gun drills from stock. The expansion of the program is two-fold:- in the existing EB 100 ex-stock range, Guhring no. 5020 and 5021, the diameter range for the standard tools has been extended from 1,5 up to 4,0 mm to 1,2 up to 5,0 mm All single-fluted gun drills EB 100 in the ex-stock range are supplied with a bright surface finish and with head form G as well as standard point geometry. The driver complies with DIN 6535 HA. Herewith, the tools cover a mulititude of gun drill applications in awide range of materials. In addition, HB or HE shank designs can be supplied with short notice within 10 days. We can naturally also produce any required gun drill as a special tool.
|
|
| EB 80 | |
The world's first ex-stock range of brazed single-fluted deep hole gun drills with solid carbide head. Deep hole drilling has become a standard machining operation. The advantages: All types have a solid carbide head with the carbide grade K15 and are TIN-coated. Therefore, the single-fluted gun drills are especially suitable for demanding tasks such as the drilling of tool steels using soluble oil as coolant, but can naturally also be applied for other materials such as aluminium or cast iron.
|
|
| ZB 80 | |
Suitable for cast iron, aluminium and short-chipping non-ferrous metals, from 6,0 - 27,0 diameter, max. total length 1000 mm. The main advantage of two-fluted gun drills compared to single-fluted gun drills is the substantially higher feed rate that can be applied during the production of the hole. This is due to the design of the two-fluted gun drill, it has two cutting edges and two flutes. Holes can therefore be produced considerably faster. However, this increase in machining speed is combined with a reduction in hole accuracy. This is also a direct consequence of a drill design with two cutting edges. As the cutting edges are positioned opposite each other, there is less of a smoothing effect and less support in comparison to a single-fluted gun drill. For drilling dephts < 10 x D we recommend our Ratio drill RT 150 GG, available ex stock and more cost-effective for these drilling dephts than brazed gun drills. In addition, RT 150 GG does not require a pilot hole in most applications. Click here to request a catalogue. |

Guhring's ExclusiveLine offers an innovative solution for the efficient high performance machining of small and deep holes. The range includes three different types of carbide drill and is available SuperA-coated, they are all optimised for specific machining tasks: - the very latest in the world market are the straight-fluted drills for the diameters from 1,5 to 6,0 mm with elliptical-shaped coolant ducts. They are especially suitable for the machining of non- ferrous metals and cast materials up to hole depht of 10 x D for standard range tools and up to 20 x D for special tools.
|
|
| World Innovation: elliptical-shaped coolant ducts | ![]() |
The very latest innovation and a speciality are the elliptical-shaped coolant ducts of the straight-fluted ExclusiveLine drill range. They enable the enlargement of the coolant duct cross section whilst retaining the wall thickness of the drill in the flute area. Subsequently, they allow the application of efficient coolant ducts even with the smallest of diameters. For the maching process it means highest rigidity, at the same time the elliptical coolant ducts can reach cross sections that - dependent on the tool diameter - are up to 100 percent larger than conventional coolant ducts in tools of the same diameter. The customer gains a considerable improvement in process reliability and a distinctly longer tool life. The results of extensive drilling tests substantiate this.

| Twist drills with and without internal coolant for steel machining | |
Guhring's new ExclusiveLine twist drills with internal cooling enable the high performance machining of steel. The 4-facet point grind and the ground 'honed' cutting edge process ensure high cutting rates as well as optimal chip breaking. The special flute profile provides a problem free evacuation of the swarf from the hole. |
![]() |
At the twist drills with internal coolant of the ExclusiveLine the coolant ducts and the flute geometryare optimally adapted to one another. Subsequently, the tool is extremely rigid but at the same time provides a high coolant flow rate. Subsequently, the twist drills also guarantee highest economic efficiency and process reliability for the production of small diameter holes in steel.

| The interchangeable insert drilling system incorporating up-to-date clamping techniques | |
The new T 800 WP interchangeable drilling system provides an efficient and quality ensured solution for the production of holes up to a maximum diameter of 102mm! Click here to request a catalogue. |
|
| Type HT 800 WP | |
| Our recommendation for the diameter range 11,5 to 25,99 mm. The nickel-plated holder is equipped with coolant ducts, the interchangeable inserts are produced in ultra fine grain carbide. However, we regard the new and patent applied for interchangeable clamping method as the highlight of type HT 800. | |
| Type RT 800 WP | |
| If you predominantly produce deep holes in the diameter range 16,0 to 40,5 mm, you should take a closer look at type RT 800 WP. The holder is nickel-plated with coolant ducts, the interchangeable inserts are produced in ultra fine grain carbide. Type RT 800 WP offers exceptional performance, especially compared to brazed carbide tools. With regard to accuracy and surface quality of the hole the T 800 WP drilling system offers outstanding efficiency. | |
| Type LT 800 WP | |
| Until recently, the economical production of deep and especially large holes above 40 mm diameter with carbide tools was only achievable with the assistance of costly special solutions. The successful development LT 800 WP now provides a modular and therefore cost-effective solution for this difficult area of machining. This amazingly for up to 102 mm diameter and 1000mm drilling depth! The holder is equipped with coolant ducts, the interchangeable inserts are produced in ultra fine grain carbide. The LT 800 WP is ideally suited as a core drill for the enlarging of drilled holes. Also remarkable is the fact that, depending on diameter, holes up to 15 x D can be produced, i.e. gun drilling. | ![]() |
| Type GT 800 WP | |
Drilling tools with carbide indexable inserts have been around for a long time. They have a niche in the market. On the other hand, drills with high speed steel interchangeable inserts have so far not achieved any considerable cost advantages in comparison to corresponding high speed steel drills. Now there is a solution: the twin-edged disposable insert in sintered PM HSS-E from 16,0 to 25,5 mm diameter. It provides the possibility of considerable cost-savings in machining areas where until now conventional high speed drills have been applied. Interesting for changing machining tasks: the interchangeable inserts are compatible and can be applied in type RT 800 WP holders. Similarly carbide interchangeable inserts can be applied on GT 800 holders.
